The
12th annual Carrboro Music Festival
will take place on
Sunday, September 20th, 2009.

Our day long, free festival features music at various indoor and outdoor venues. The outdoor sites present music until dark, while some of the indoor venues go well into the evening.

The 2008 event presented a myriad of musical styles (at 24 venues) with over 160 different musical aggregations- ranging in size from solo artists to a ten piece accordion band.

Applications to play the 2009 event will be available on this site from:
May 1st until July 20th.

We wish to thank all the performers who have volunteered their time and energy over the past 11 years. Our festival would not exist without them.

~ Looking Back for a moment ~
The first four years the festival was held in June and called The Fete De la Musique. In 2002 we moved to the last Sunday in September and began calling it The Carrboro Music Festival. 2008 will be the seventh year as festival coordinator for Gerry Williams, who says "This is the most incredible music event that I've been involved with during my thirty year career in and around music. Unlike many aspects of the music business, this is entirely about celebrating our community and its music. The range and quality of what we see and hear each year is simply amazing!"

Three pedicabs will provide free rides on Weaver Street between Town Hall and Weaver Street Market from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

Volunteer on Festival Day!

Want to be a part of this incredible community event? You can do that while making new friends or hanging out with old friends. There are numerous types of jobs to be done. Help backstage, assist in traffic direction and parking or work at an information table. Those are but a few of the ways that you can help while still hearing an awful lot of music.
Students can receive Service Learning hours while all volunteers will get a free festival T-shirt, a free raffle ticket and two free passes to any regular scheduled program at The DSI Comedy Theater. Check out the volunteer pages at our
Volunteer Description web page

Children's Activities

The Town Commons will again feature a number of activities for kids. A twenty foot high scramble slide will give our youngsters plenty of exercise. The Scrap Exchange will be providing materials and trained staff to supply a fun, educational, hands-on creative arts experience. Specialty food vendors will be there to provide sustenance. All of these activities are still right next to the Town Commons stage where six wonderful bands will provide the music.

The 2008 Carrboro Music Festival Committee consisted of coordinator Gerry Williams*, Charlie Berry, Catherine DeVine**, Tony Galiani, Michael Gowan, Jackie Helvey*, Meg McGurk, Ellen Perry, Janet Place* and Kim Andrews (Recreation and Parks)
