Parking Study FAQ

1. WHAT IS THE PROJECT STUDY AREA?

The downtown portion of Carrboro includes all public parking lots between Rosemary St and Sunset Dr to the east and the Carrboro Town Hall to the west. View Study Area Map

- This includes the entirety of Weaver Street, and Carr St on both sides of Greensboro St

- This also includes Jones Ferry Rd and Laurel Ave near the Farmers Market

2. WHAT WILL THE PROJECT ACCOMPLISH OR PRODUCE?

This planning process will include a summary of total parking spaces and how they are used, an estimate of future demand for parking, recommendations for improving parking management, as well as considerations for walking, bicycling, and riding transit to/from and within downtown Carrboro. During this process public involvement will be essential to convey the locations of parking challenges, perspectives from those who regularly experience these parking challenges, and a survey or Carrboro residents.

3. WHO SHOULD GET INVOLVED?

Everyone! Meaningful and broad-reaching public engagement is a critical component of this project. If you visit Carrboro for the Farmers Market, Carr Mill Mall, the Cat’s Cradle, or any of the restaurants, shops, and other attractions regardless of whether you drive and park, we want your input. Downtown merchants and employees are likewise encouraged to get involved because you experience the unique parking challenges of Carrboro on a regular basis.

4. HOW WILL PUBLIC INPUT BE USED FOR THIS PROJECT?

The consultant team will facilitate interactive discussions in-person and online to collect information and feedback. In addition to identifying parking challenges, citizens will be asked to strategize potential solutions that can be conveyed to Town administrators. All of this feedback will be used by the consultant team to improve parking, walking, bicycling and transit.

5. WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND PUBLIC MEETINGS?

That’s ok! We recognize that not everyone can attend a public meeting due to work and personal commitments. This project was designed to have a strong online presence by using this website and social media. View the Get Involved webpage

In addition to holding public workshops, the consultant team will also be conducting targeted stakeholder meetings with downtown stakeholders, local committees, City staff, and other relevant organizations. For more information about those meetings, please contact Bergen Watterson, Transportation Planner with the Town of Carrboro bwatterson@townofcarrboro.org.
