Invasive Species Week
Join the Town of Carrboro’s efforts to make our local ecosystems more resilient to the effects of climate change and other biological challenges during National Invasive Species Awareness Week.
The term "invasive" is used for non-native species that spread and reproduce rapidly, displace native species, and cause major disturbance to the areas in which they are present. Invasive species can reduce biodiversity, threaten the survival of native plants and animals, and interfere with ecosystem functions.
How can you prevent the spread of invasive species to the places that you love? The good news is that solutions start at home. Here’s how:
- Learn to identify and remove invasive species in your yard or neighborhood using one of the following resources:
- Take extra care when traveling, gardening, or moving plant material. Buy your plants from a reputable source and plant native species to support your local ecosystem.
- Volunteer to help remove invasive species from public lands and natural areas.
